German – Israel Minerva Program
Minerva Short-Term Research Grants and Minerva Fellowships
Short-Term Research Grants
Introduction
The primary goal of Minerva Short-Term Research Grants (MRG) is to give
young German and Israeli scientists the opportunity to visit research
partners or to establish contacts with scientists in the respective guest
country. The grants also allow the scientists to participate in seminars and
workshops, particularly as guest speakers.
Duration/Budget
The short-term grants are for stays of a minimum 1 week and up to 8 weeks.
Fellowship
The fellowship rates are paid as follows: Graduate Students: EUR 300/week,
Postdocs: EUR 425/week. Flights are covered by a lump sum of up to EUR
700.00. Grant holders will have to take care of health insurance themselves.
Deadlines
Applications including letters of invitation and letters of recommendation
should be reviewed at OSR by April 22, 2008 and must reach the Minerva
office by 01 May, 2008.
Submission Procedure
Applications must be written in English and sent by electronic mail. Only
complete applications and applications sent by electronic mail will be
processed
Both German and Israeli scientists must submit their applications to the
Minerva Office in Munich attention Mr. Michael Nagel [nagel at gv.mpg.de]. In
addition, Israeli applicants are requested to send copies of their
applications by electronic mail to the Israeli Ministry of Science
[nurit at most.gov.il].

Minerva Fellowships
Introduction
The Minerva Fellowship Program enables German and Israeli scientists and
researchers to spend longer-term research residencies at institutions in the
host country. Young scientists and researchers (post docs) are given
priority in the selection process. Scientists with tenure are not eligible
to apply.
Duration/Budget
The Minerva Fellowship are for stays from six to thirty-six months (for
graduates) or from six to twenty-four months (for post docs).
Israeli Fellows in Germany
Status
Monthly Fellowship rates
1. Scientists working on their Ph.D. thesis
€ 1,128
2. Scientist(Ph.D.) with up to 5 years' working experience
€ 2,100
3. Scientist (Ph.D.) with more than 5 years' working experience
€ 2,300
Dependency allowance: up to € 256/mth. for an accompanying spouse (if spouse
has income less than € 409). Children's allowance: up to € 51/mth. per child
(if children accompany family to Germany for minimum six months). Travel
allowance: A lump sum is paid to cover travel expenses for visits of a
minimum period of six months. If spouse and/or family accompany the visiting
scientist for more than six months, Minerva will partly cover their travel
costs. Payment in kind: up to € 123/mth. (for books, travel to symposia
etc.)
Deadlines
Applications must be sent to the Minerva Office no later than June 15, 2008
and to the OSR by June 9, 2008 at the latest.

Applications must be sent to the Minerva Office, attn. Ms. Sieglinde
Reichardt by mail [reichardt at gv.mpg.de] and in the original no later than
June 15, 2008.
