Recent advancement in non-linear optics using quasi phase-matched materials

Wavelength conversion by non-linear optical interaction in crystals
is a mature technology, presently implemented in many devices for
generation of laser beam in otherwise unattainable wavelengths.
Advancements in solid state laser technology and in non-linear optical
crystals enable realization of advanced frequency converted laser
devices as well as implementation of non-linear optics to other
The basic principles and configurations of non-linear optical
interaction in microstructured materials will be presented.
Recent advancement in non-linear materials development, such as
vapor transport equilibrated periodically poled Lithium Tantalate,
and periodically oriented GaAs waveguide will be presented.
Some device applications of present and predictable technology, such
as optical signal processing and monolithic diode laser wavelength
conversion will be discussed.
