  TIME: 3:30pm (Thu)

PLACE: Physics building (#54) room 207

Looking Out To See In

SPEAKER:

ABSTRACT/COMMENTS:
During more than two millennia discoveries have come through experiments
and observations of systems on earth, and also through signals coming from
space. Incidences from early days to the present of discoveries coming first
from space cover phenomena associated with the strong, electromagnetic,
and weak interactions represent a significant and important minority among
alldiscoveries. On the other hand, in the case of gravity, there have been only
two important discoveries coming first from measurements on earth.
Not only the discoveries, but also many of the discoverers, were most remarkable.
